Chronic inflammation of our bodies can trigger illnesses, such as heart disease and cancer. Cancer is a big killer by causing an average of eight million deaths a year. However, one factor we can take control of is how we eat. Here are the top seven foods that can lead to inflammatory diseases:

1. Sugar

High levels of sugar not only cause tooth decay, but also increases the risk of obesity and diabetes. Instead of sugar-filled drinks, try water with infusions or doing a juice press.

2. Trans fats

Trans fatty acids wreak havoc on a person's cholesterol levels and have been shown to cause both obesity and insulin resistance, a definitive path toward diabetes. Look at every manufactured food item your purchase to ensure that hydrogenated oil or vegetable shortening are not used.

3. Dairy products

Humans were not designed to drink cow's milk. A bunch of allergic reactions happen as a result of drinking it, such as inflammation, diarrhea, skin rashes and acne. If enjoy dairy products, eat some unsweetened yogurt as a good alternative.

4. Commercial meat

Cows that are slaughtered for industrial meat production. The problem with this is we eat them after they're fed inflammatory foods, such as soy beans and corn. A better choice is organic, grass-fed meat from a local grower.

5. Alcohol

High consumption of alcohol leads to a damaged larynx (voice box) and liver. A good alternative would be a glass or two of a red wine.

6. Refined grains

Grains developed and used by the giant food crop industry are stripped of rich fiber and vitamin B. The sad thing is that modern grains have tons of sugar and empty calories. While whole grains are better, you still might not get the full spectrum.

7. Artificial additives

Popular additives found in tons of commercially manufactured foods like aspartame and monosodium glutamate (MSG) may cause rheumatoid arthritis. Always look at the labels of food carefully to avoid these toxic additives.
